The word ROELA derives from the Latin “Rotella”, which according to the Royal Spanish Academy, means “ancient unminted gold coin”. The use of this currency dates back to ancient Rome. It consisted of pieces of valuable metal, of certain characteristics and weight, which circulated as exchange values. Over time, they evolved and perfected their finish, until they became the coins we know today.
