Overview
What does Societe Commerciale de Services S.A. do?
Created in 2013, the Emmanuel Lesly Brezault Foundation is an independent and non-profit organization. It was set up to contribute to enhance the cultural education of underprivileged children in schools (from 6 to 17 years old). Context: Haiti suffered many losses following the earthquake of January 12, 2010, including many cultural and artistic infrastructures (museums, cultural centers, libraries, etc.). The losses of the buildings were all the more important in the capital, Port-au-Prince, this unfortunately due to the lack of decentralization of the country. Considered non-essential, art is often ignored in humanitarian programs that prioritize basic needs (food, shelter, health care, etc.). Art and culture play a central role in the lives of Haitians. The cultural centers which give the possibility to the expression of the arts are the witnesses of the vitality of the Haitian culture. Although the country's recovery is difficult, cultural heritage is nonetheless a source of comfort, self- confidence, a way out of everyday reality and a hope for renewal. Thus we can say that culture is a positive force, because it contributes to socio-economic development (job-creating sector) and to the sustainable reconstruction of the country (civic responsibility). Indeed, cultural traditions contribute to the social cohesion of the country.
